Airway originated from Beijing Airway Communications Co., Ltd. which was established in 1998. Starting as a WISP (Wireless Internet Service Provider), it today has become a telecommunication group company with designated frequency resources from the government and relevant telecom licenses such as ICP, ISP and ICC covering 17 provinces and cities. And it will commit itself to the construction and operation of the new-generation broadband wireless network in the future.

The development of modern information communication from narrowband to broadband and from wired to wireless has become a trend. Therefore, it is inevitable to build a nationwide wireless access network. Currently, the technologies for both fixed and mobile wireless access are becoming mature. As a complement to wired access, wireless access will eventually co-exist with wired ones which will result in the connection of the areas covered by wireless network to that of the traditional backbone network. Ultimately, wireless access and wired access will compose a modern communication system which operates complementarily everywhere for all the time. In addition, wireless access is especially suitable in wide range of areas requiring high bandwidth and with wiring difficulties.
